Introduction to an Aspiring Photographer and Outdoor Enthusiast

Hi! My name is Mac and this post is to tell you a little bit about me! I am a senior, soon to be graduating with an economics degree. I have a job lined up in Denver after I graduate, which I cannot wait to start. I spent the summer up there and absolutely loved it. If you have not been, I would definitely recommend visiting, the mountains are gorgeous! I have included a picture I took this summer on a backpacking trip through the mountains so that you can see for yourself!

Some ways I really like to spend my extra time (which I have very little of, I work a full time job in addition to taking 18 hours) are by experimenting with photography, cooking, hiking and just being outside, and spending time with my friends. I am beginning to experiment with exposure photography, which is incredibly fun. I like to think I am a decent cook, I just wish I had more time for it. My love for hiking and the outdoors was definitely encouraged by my summer spent in Denver.

Another way I really like to spend my time (and all of my money really) is by traveling. I always do everything I can anytime I have a break to go and visit new places. This break I went to Chicago, which was so fun! I loved the culture and people, and how proud everyone was of their city. It is a place I would consider living at some point. I expected it to be very cold, which it was, but it was not as bad as I was anticipating due to the fact that there was very little wind. I do not enjoy the wind of Oklahoma one bit.

I grew up in southern Oklahoma in a town that I imagine you have never heard of, which is okay! I would never go there if had not spent most of my life there. Growing up in such a small and closed environment has really helped me to appreciate all that I have around me, and I think has generally made me a happier person. So if I could go back, I would not change it.

  1. Hey Mac! That’s awesome that you already have a job lined up for when you graduate! I took a road trip with my mom this summer to Boulder, Colorado and thought it was absolutely beautiful, so I can imagine that Denver would be the same way. I think photography is really cool and wish I knew more about it because so many times I’m on vacation and want to take a picture of something pretty and it never turns out the way I think it will!

  2. Oh, Mac, reading your Introduction reminds me that I need to make up a list of all the Colorado fans in the classes this semester: so many people have been writing about Colorado in their Introductions or in their favorite places post. How great that you already have a job lined up there! And wow: full-time job AND 18 hours. You are busy! With this class, there is a lot of flexibility, like doing just half the reading if you are busy, opting for the Portfolio so you can focus on the storytelling in your blog. I hope the flexible schedule as you move on through this semester... on your way to Denver! Very exciting: congratulations again on having your job lined up and in such a great place to live.

  3. Hey Mac! Congrats on getting the job in Denver that will be such a fun transition to live there after school. I am also a senior and trying to figure out what I am going to do after graduation. Your schedule sounds packed! I can't believe you have time for everything haha. I am from Grand Rapids, Michigan, which isn't to far from Chicago and I love getting to visit there. I have some friends that live there and they really do like it. I know what you mean about the wind. Sometimes that is the biggest contributor to being cold down here in the winter.

  4. Hi Mac! Congratulations for having a job lined up and such a wonderful place to live. I know how busy you are this semester with full-time job and 18 hours, but your almost there. You are going to graduate soon and have a great job. You can do it!. I also love travelling a lot. And one of my dreams is to visit many countries in my life. I really enjoy visiting new places and meet new people and know different cultures.

  5. Hi Mac! First of all well done on already having a job lined up, that is impressive! Is the job economics related? I also love Colorado though I have not been there for any extended period of time. The scenery is so beautiful and I wish we had mountains like that out here! I hope you enjoy getting to live in Colorado next year, you deserve it after doing college and working full time!

  6. Nice to meet you Mac! I would like to point out your insanity of taking 18 hours plus working a full time job. What in the world! I gasped when I read that! But kudos to you because I see that you're handling it very well. Colorado looks beautiful and it's on my bucket list to visit. I also went to Chicago over break, and it was the best! Please post more pictures of your outdoor photography!

  7. Hey! Congrats on having the job in Denver lined up! I've never been to Denver, but have visited Utah many times, so I kind of have an idea how pretty it can be up there. I like to take photos sometimes too, although with college I haven't had time to do that lately. I admire you for working full time and taking 18 hours... You go, dude!

  8. Hey!
We actually have a lot in common, at least from your blog post. I am from Idaho and have been to Denver a lot. I am absolutely in love with the mountains. The past three summers I have worked in Jackson Hole Wyoming and spend all my free time going on hikes or cooking.
I also plan to travel to many countries. I am going to study abroad next year. I have yet to been out of the county but I have been to over 30 of the states. The mountain are still by far my favorite. You should take up snowboarding or skiing in Denver. It snows a lot there over winter. I also agree with you you the wind here, not a fan!

Good luck with classes this semester!

  9. Hi!
I really enjoyed reading your introduction. I used to visit Telluride, Colorado every summer with my family, so I totally understand your love for the mountains. They're always so beautiful! I personally also like them better in the summer because I am not the biggest fan of cold weather. Speaking of, I love Chicago as well! I would love to live and work there, however the cold is really a deterring factor for me. An interesting fact, I am in a club at OU called Magazine Interest Club and we were actually just Skyping with a girl who lives in Chicago two weeks ago! She was telling us how when she was walking to work in the mornings, it was -15 degrees and that her nose actually froze over! I was amazed because I didn't know that could actually happen to people but she confirmed that she literally could not breathe out of it because the steam freezes over your nostrils...So, something to keep in mind if you ever work there!
I hope you have a great time in Denver after graduation! Good luck with the rest of your time here at OU!

  10. Hey Mac! I'm a graduating economics major as well! Colorado is such a fun place to visit, and I can't even imagine how much fun it would be to live there. That picture you posted is awesome! I've never gotten into photography, but I always think it seems like such a cool hobby. I'm from southern Oklahoma as well, but my town, Ada, is a little bigger so many people who are from Oklahoma have heard of it or maybe even visited before.

  11. Hey Mac. Congratulations in already having a job lined up! That must be a weight lifted off of your shoulders. I really love Colorado and I wouldn't mind living there in the future. I really enjoy photography and traveling so we have those things in common. I haven't been to Chicago yet but I would really like to go someday.

  12. Hey Mac,

Colorado is such a beautiful place to live! I love the healthy and active mindset of the people there, too. It's much different than a lot of people in Oklahoma. My fiance and I both want to live there some day. You are so lucky to have a job lined up there. What will you be doing??

It's also a great place to practice your photography, so congrats! I hope you have plenty of time to explore that passion.

Also, I didn't think it was possible to work a full-time job and do 18 hours. When do you sleep??

  13. Hi Mac!
I am also from a small town in Oklahoma that no one recognizes... I agree about growing up in a place like that making you much more thankful for all the opportunities you have now. I also totally agree with you about Oklahoma's wind... It makes everything 10x colder! Congrats on landing a job already for after graduation, especially in a place that you already love. I wish you the best in Denver!

  14. Mac, I am so jealous that you are moving to Colorado! I love Colorado, it is so beautiful! I've spent summers in Colorado, as well as skiing multiple times in the winter. I don't know if I could live in Colorado full time though. Even though it's beautiful, I cannot stand the cold! I need to be somewhere that's warm 24/7! I also spend a lot of money on travelling and I really enjoy it, so its worth it! I'm a pilot, so I plan on travelling a lot! Where did you grow up in southern OK? I went to high school just outside of OKC, but I spent a lot of time with my dads family in southern OK. They all live in a small town south of Pauls Valley.

  15. Nice to meet you Mac! Denver will be an awesome place to live after graduation, there is so much to do and it is a beautiful city. It sounds like you have had a busy semester, I hope it has all turned out well so far and hopefully you have gotten some free time to continue your cooking. I also love traveling and went to Chicago for the first time this last summer, it was a really neat city!

  16. Hi, Mac. It is nice to meet you! I think it is awesome that you want to be a photographer. To be honest, I am one of the worst photographer! I am not really great with taking pictures so I do not even take my own selfie. So I admire your talent because I do not have one! I think it is awesome that you want to be a photographer. One day, I hope I see your photos in the art gallery!

  17. Hi Mac! It's awesome that you have a job all lined up after you graduate--that must be a load off your mind! Especially since it's in a place that you really like. I also like cooking, but I LOVE baking, to the point where my family says I can only bake so many things when I come home...because of course there's not much time for anything besides schoolwork during the semester! Anyway, I hope you find time to pursue all of your hobbies on top of school and work and everything, and I wish you luck finishing up your senior year!

  18. Hi Mac! That's very exciting that you have a job for when you graduate already! I can imagine that takes a lot of stress off you for your last semester! I also love to travel, but have never been to Denver or Chicago! I don't care for the wind much either, so if I were to choose on of those places to visit it would definitely be Denver! I hope that your new job will allow you to still have time for all your hobbies! Good luck with everything!
